Circle, the emittent of the world’s second largest stablecoin by Market Cap USDC, plans to bridge the first seamless to have rolled out to native USDC upgrade on Layer 2 Blockchain Linea.
In an announcement on March 5, Circle said that Circle said that the Zero-Knowledge Powered Ethereum (ETH) Layer 2 will be the first blockchain that witnesses USDC (USDC) upgrade. Linea is set to go from a bridged version of USDC to a native version.
Circle introduced the bridged USD standard in November 2023 and since then the Stablecoin has become one of the most bridged assets in the crypto ecosystem.
New blockchains often implement the bridged version of the currently $ 56 billion stablecoin in their test network or mainnet environment. In the past, Circle has added native support to various EVM block chains, rollups and other L2 platforms.
However, Linea is the first blockchain network that is bridged USDC, or USDC.E, is seamlessly upgraded to native issue. It means implementation that the security offers to be fully reserved and repayable 1: 1 for US dollars.
“We make history with Circle by being the first to bridge to native USDC upgrade with zero disturbance. The same contract address, no liquidity fragmentation, just faster, safer transactions – this is what building a seamless blockchain infrastructure looks like, “Linea posted on X.

The upgrade will see a bridging break for USDC.E on March 16, 2025. However, USDC.E remains usable for activities on chains such as trade, expenditures and swapping.
Such as Circle Notes in his blog post in which the Native USDC launch is announced on Linea, support also means access to the cross-chain transfer protocol of the Stablecoin emittent.
Circle will also add CCTP V2 support for linea after the Native USDC launch of the ZKEVM L2, which connects it to Ethereum, Avalanche and Base for transfers from Cross-Chain.
Linea, launched by Consensys, has seen remarkable growth since the Mainnet went live in July 2023. The number of decentralized applications on the network has exceeded 400, with more than $ 250 million in transactions.
Use outings that see significant growth include decentralized finances, gaming, non-fungal tokens and digital identity. The L2 leads as the top ZKEVM protected by total value and, according to Defillama, has currently locked more than $ 190 million in total value.
