A US bank employee reportedly stole a wad of cash from the lender, causing tens of thousands of dollars in losses.
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) accuses Matthew Lewis Robinson of stealing $50,997 from the drive-through teller drawer of a Truist Bank branch in Virginia.
Truist has not commented on the alleged theft, which the FDIC said was related to “personal dishonesty.”
The regulator has barred Robinson from working at or participating in the activities of any FDIC-insured bank, holding company or affiliate without prior approval.
Robinson has agreed to serve the FDIC prohibition order without admitting or denying the allegations.
The FDIC also says the ban order will remain enforceable until a regulator decides to suspend, modify, terminate or set aside the provisions in writing.
The regulator adds that the order does not prevent other government agencies from taking legal action against Robinson if deemed appropriate.
Last month, reports emerged that another Truist employee had been caught committing bank fraud. The FDIC alleged that Alexi J. Rearick cashed 13 fraudulent checks worth $69,040 from five customer accounts without their knowledge or consent.
Truist Bank is the ninth-largest commercial bank in the U.S., with more than $535 billion in assets, according to the Federal Reserve.
