Instant finality with Algorand technology
John Alan Woods explained that Immersve, a startup known for issuing standard MasterCards, will soon allow users to make purchases with instant finality using Pera Wallet. Immersve, which previously worked with Ethereum, faced challenges with high transaction fees and delayed settlements. In contrast, Algorand’s technology offers virtually zero-fee transactions and instant finality, eliminating these problems.
Improving the user experience
The integration aims to improve the user experience by enabling instant payments when users tap their card for purchases. Woods noted that transactions on Ethereum are settled once a day due to high fees, which poses a risk if users attempt concurrent transactions. Algorand’s instant finality addresses this risk, ensuring immediate settlement and limiting potential losses.
Development and testing
The collaboration between Immersve and Algorand included significant contributions from Algorand’s R&D and developer relations teams. These teams provided the necessary support to successfully integrate Mastercard with Pera Wallet. The project is currently in the testing phase and a press release is expected by the end of the week.
This integration marks a notable advancement for Algorand and demonstrates its ability to efficiently support large-scale financial transactions. As testing continues, more details are likely to emerge, highlighting further innovations within the Algorand ecosystem.
