Algorand Foundation and the Government of Plateau State of Nigeria join hands to explore pilot programs using blockchain technology in Nigeria.
The partnership was announced on Algorand’s official website. The message stated that the Plateau State government holds a strong position in the governance and administration of state departments.
The authority oversees routine activities in sectors ranging from legislative and judicial to healthcare and procurement. With the help of Algorand, the government will test blockchain apps in various sectors.
Dominic Gwaman, Director General of PITCDA (Plateau State Information and Communications Technology Development Agency), spoke about the recent partnership. According to Gwaman, Nigeria is leading the digital economy in Africa.
The National Blockchain Policy has taken the first step towards blockchain adoption in the region. The authority is pleased to be working with Algorand to develop best practices that enable efficient and transparent access to public services. Gwaman noted that it will also create new employment opportunities.
Although the collaboration is quite high-profile, it has not yet boosted ALGO’s market price. Currently, Algorand is trading at $0.1908, having dipped 4.8% in the last 24 hours. According to the latter ALGO crypto price predictionThe currency is expected to end the year at $0.47.
To reach that level, the Algorand Foundation must continue to establish such collaborative initiatives. However, this is not the first time Algorand has launched a program in Nigeria. The company invested massively in the region through software development education.
The foundation has already helped more than 500 software developers in Nigeria. More than 10% of trained developers in 2023 came from Plateau State. The parties organized several events in December 2023 to take software development activities in the region to the next level.
With the latest partnership, Algorand and the government of Plateau State of Nigeria are sure to drive the adoption of blockchain into law.
