The Algorand Foundation CEO’s social media account X has been hacked, marking the third major exploit of crypto-related X accounts this month.
In a new wirethe company behind the smart contract platform Algorand (ALGO) announced that the X account of Staci Warden, the company’s CEO, has been hacked and warns against interacting with it.
“[Staci Warden’s] account has been hacked. Please do not click on links in her account or respond to DMs (direct messages). We are working to restore it.”
Some of the hacker’s posts included a reposted link to a recording titled “puppets ruined Bitcoin” and one that falsely claims Warden has been fired from Algorand and has lost her relationships.
The hacking of Warden’s account marks the third time in January that bad actors have gone after the social media accounts of crypto executives or regulators.
On January 9, an operator gained access to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) X account, falsely claiming at the time that the regulator had approved spot-traded Bitcoin (BTC) exchange-traded funds.
Additionally, on January 18, a hacker took over the ‘official contribution address’.
News of the hack did not appear to impact ALGO’s price, as the digital asset is trading at $0.167 at the time of writing, a gain of 4.2% over the past 24 hours.
