Finding good apps in a decentralized app store is a bit like finding a good restaurant in a strange city. Solana Mobile is betting on curation with its new dApp Spotlight feature, a curated discovery tool in the Solana dApp Store designed to spotlight quality applications that might otherwise go to waste.
The feature will launch with the inaugural theme of ‘Onchain Games & Puzzles’, showcasing four select apps to users of Solana’s Seeker smartphone.
What dApp Spotlight actually does
The Solana Mobile team will curate varying themed collections of dApps and display them prominently in the store. The first batch focuses on blockchain-based games and puzzles.
The Solana dApp Store currently hosts over 225 dApps and the Seeker device has shipped over 150,000 copies.
On June 4, Solana Mobile introduced a rating and review system, giving users the ability to publicly rate apps. Linking user-generated reviews with editorial curation creates a two-pronged discovery mechanism.
The Seeker ecosystem and the free model
The Solana dApp Store does not charge developers any platform fees. That’s a meaningful differentiator in a world where Apple accounts for up to 30% of every transaction.
Solana Mobile’s native token, $SKRties many of these together. With a total supply of up to 10 billion tokens, $SKR functions in terms of governance, incentives and management within the ecosystem. The dApp Spotlight feature fits into this framework, where curated visibility could intersect with token-based incentives and the broader Seeker Season initiatives that encourage regular app engagement.
