President Donald Trump signed an executive order on 6 March to set up a strategic Bitcoin reserve and a digital assets stock and to lead the federal government to maintain forfeited crypto as a long-term value storage.
According to the order, the Ministry of Finance will supervise the management of both reserves, but the government will not actively acquire extra assets that go beyond the seized assets.
The order further states that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and trade secretary Howard Lutnick will be given the task of developing budget-neutral strategies to expand the Bitcoin interests of the country without incurring additional tax payment costs.
However, it offers no further details or a timeline for when these companies would be expanded.
The market responded negatively to the revelation that the government would not immediately acquire Bitcoin for the reserve. The lack of an immediate accumulation strategy has tempered market enthusiasm.
Based on crypto salad data, Bitcoin crashed more than 5% to a low 85,000 low in a few minutes before trying to stop bleeding. The Crypto flagship acted at $ 86,000 from the moment of the press.
The wider market followed the example, with large alts that fell by 6% across the board.
Executive order
The order is required that Bitcoin will be seized by criminal and civil asset statements procedures will be deposited into the reserve, so that no additional costs for taxpayers are guaranteed.
In the meantime, the Digital Asset Stockpile, a separate pool, will contain other cryptocurrencies than BTC that are also obtained by forfeiture.
The order also calls for a complete audit of the digital power possession of the government, with estimates that suggest that the US has around 200,000 BTC.
The new policy prevents the government from selling a Bitcoin in the reserve and comparing it with a digital equivalent of Fort Knox. Proponents of the relocation claim that the missteps from the past could occur, referring to cases where early Bitcoin sales led to billions in lost potential value.
The movement is in line with Trump’s wider urge to position the US as a global leader in digital assets. David Sacks, an important lawyer within the administration, praised the decision and called it a fulfillment of Trump’s campaign blows to support crypto innovation.
Although the executive order indicates a shift in federal digital activist policy, there are still questions about the long -term implications. Some analysts warn that maintaining a Bitcoin reserve without active management can expose the government to market volatility.
In addition, regulatory obstacles and conference overview can further influence the way in which the initiative is developing.
The order emphasizes the accelerating efforts of the administration to integrate digital assets into the national financial strategy, whereby officials call it a step to solidify the US as a ‘crypto capital’.
